My second trip during May came around so quick shortly after Turkey, it had me feeling slightly overwhelmed with all that I had to do before I headed out. But I was quite excited as it was one I had planned myself. I had previously been catching up over the phone with a friend that lives in Sri Lanka, and that’s how the idea of visiting came about. I headed out with my sister and decided to settle in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka and due to the vast variety of accommodation offered, I thought we’d ‘hotel hop’ as so to speak – therefore staying at a new location every 2 nights.
Our first residence was located in Weligama, a hot spot for surfers – I found this out due to being asked so many times if we were there to surf when we’d say where we’re staying (little did the know we can’t surf let alone swim) haha. We stayed at the hotel We Escape, one of four boutique hotels by Mosvold Hotels for the first two nights.
The property boasts of a variety of rooms ranging from dorm like rooms (popular with surf camps) to superior double rooms if you’re after privacy. We stayed in the Superior Double Room which was a good size and featured a four poster bed and a pretty spacious bathroom.
The hotel also featured an onsite restaurant, with the pool in close proximity convenient for grabbing that mango daiquiri as you top up your tan. I was thoroughly impressed with the vast choice of food aswell, ranging from traditional Sri Lankan dishes to Mexican fajitas to a classic beef burger. Safe to say you won’t be going to bed on an empty stomach!
Overall we had a very pleasant and relaxing stay. The staff was very welcoming and attentive, ensuring we had a fun experience during our time in Weligama.
